Monday is library day

We really enjoy our library visits. We enjoy browsing the shelves, reading different books and then checking out a new book for the week.

It is a great way to start our school week.

Making a lava lamp

The first step to making a lava lamp was to put water and oil into a bottle.
We talked about what happened and why. We discussed density and how the water was denser than the oil. This was the reason the oil sat on top of the water and didnt mix in with it.

The next step was to add a few drops of food colouring. 

We observed the food colouring move through the oil and sit on top on the water for a little while., before bursting in the water. 

Then we put in a "Fizzy tablet" (Berocca) and watched as the bubbles floated up through the water and the oil. 

Afterwards, we add more water and gave it a really good shake to see if we could make the oil and water mix. We found out that no matter how hard we shook, they would not mix together!
